Psychology License

Human body and mind, psychology is a field of study that requires extensive education as well as experience. Psychology, in a very basic essence, is the scientific and systematic study of the human mind and the various processes and cognitive functions. A healthy mind of a human being is a truly remarkable thing that is capable of virtually anything. What was thought to be impossible just a few decades ago is now an everyday norm in today’s society. What we think is impossible today will undoubtedly become a possibility in the future. Human beings are constantly advancing and progressing, and every new groundbreaking discovery or medicinal breakthrough serves as a testimony to the limitless abilities of the human mind.

It takes a brilliant mind to study something like the human mind, and psychology is no exception. Becoming a recognized and wealthy psychology is a long and arduous journey but the rewards have the potential to greatly exceed the risks and obstacles. Many people have an idea of how much work and effort that becoming a lawyer or a doctor takes. Many people also have an idea of the strength and courage that it takes for an individual to become a firefighter or a policeman. But a few people actually recognize the patience and intelligence it takes to become a licensed psychologist. Though it is not a necessity to possess a psychology license in order to practice psychology, a licensed psychologist has the ability to open up shop and run their own independent practice. A psychology license grants a psychologist the capability to work under his (or her) own hours and set guidelines, rules, fees, and other variables to his (or her) own content. Many psychologists usually start off as clinical psychologists in order to gain valuable experience while finishing up graduate school. There are those who decide to stay in a clinic and practice clinical psychology without a psychology license, but due to the restraints and limits that a psychologist who works for a health center or a clinic face, many decide to go on to become a licensed psychologist to practice independently. The benefits of owning your own business or practice far exceed the benefits of working under a set of rules and regulations that you must abide by. This is not to say however, that a licensed psychologist is above the law and is allowed to violate the ethics and moral code of being a doctor.

A psychology license is not just something that is handed out. On top of the lengthy academic career that must be concluded with either a Doctor in Psychology (Psy. D.) or a Doctor in Philosophy (Ph. D.) degree, a prospective licensed psychologist must have several years of experience on their resume. Experience is perhaps the greatest teacher, and in order to preserve the prestige and exclusivity of a psychology license, the requirements are strictly enforced for those looking to become a licensed psychologist.
