Due to the intimate nature of certain practices of psychology, many psychologists, especially those in counseling or therapeutic specialties, must be aware and knowledgeable of federal regulations that are placed on various practices of psychology. Psychology is a very social and interactive practice, and many psychologists are very open and social people by nature. There are certain specialties of psychology that are predominantly research based as well however, and these specialized psychologists often do not interact with clients or patients very often at all. Even within these areas of expertise, there are several federal regulations that need to be abided by. Much of the funds necessary to conduct the proper research and experimentation are from grants and contributions from the government, and in order for psychologists to keep these allowances, federal regulations must be adhered to.

There are certain types of psychologists that are constantly exposed to various clients and patients on a daily basis. Other forms of psychology require a combination of interacting with patients and doing research, yet other psychology specialties are strictly research and experimentation based. Federal regulations differ according to which specific field of psychology that is in question. The journey of becoming a professional and licensed psychologist is one that is lengthy and exhausting, one that requires a fair amount of concentration, dedication, and passion. Achieving the prominent degree of a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) or Doctor of Psychology (Psy. D.) is an accomplishment that not many people are able to undertake.

A violation of federal regulations in a field such as psychology can be tremendously detrimental to a psychologist’s career and reputation. No matter what field or specialty of psychology that is being practiced, an acute and perpetual acknowledgement of federal regulations is recommended for any psychologist. In cases of counseling or school psychology, psychologists are often working closely with people who trust enough to open up and divulge often personal information in order to receive assistance and guidance. On the other hand, in cases of research and developmental psychology, psychologists must be careful not to violate any federal regulations through immoral and unethical behavior that may include impractical, cruel, or unjust experimentations and research methods. In the former case, psychologists must be especially careful to uphold the doctor-patient confidentiality clause and must be careful of what they say to a patient or client at all times. Though it is not a very common occurrence, there have been incidents of clients or patients serving a psychologist with a lawsuit of malpractice, and even if the psychologist happens to win the case, the negative connotation that comes with a lawsuit is never a good thing for business.

Federal regulations are put into place not just for the field of psychology, but for all other fields of study and businesses as well. It is important to uphold, preserve, and enforce the integrity of our nation to ensure that unethical and immoral practices are kept to a minimum, or even removed completely some day.

There is a good reason that school systems throughout many nations of the globe require at least a quarter of a person’s life span to be spent in some form of schooling and learning. The importance of education cannot be stressed enough, and it has been clinically proven time and time again that the quality of life of an individual who has completed a given amount of time in school is significantly better than an individual who did not complete the same amount of schooling. Some degrees are relatively easier to achieve than others, but again, there is a direct correlation of the yearly incomes between individuals who achieve a certain level of degree compared to those who have not. Though there are always exceptions to the rule, it is generally accepted that the longer an individual stays in school and acquires more knowledge, the higher levels and positions they can reach, along with the higher incomes as well.

The study of the mind, also known as psychology, is a field of study that is a perfect example of hard work and effort being rewarded in the long run. A psychology degree is one that requires a lengthy and arduous academic career, for psychology degrees from an undergraduate program are relatively useless and often seen as lacking or incomplete. A true psychologist usually pursues a master’s or doctorate’s psychology degree all throughout graduate school, and even after achieving graduate level psychology degrees, hands on experience and field work are necessary for a respectable and wealthy position. Many undergraduates looking to go into the field of psychology will complete the undergraduate study program with a bachelor’s general psychology degree. Psychology is a field of study that can be quite extensive and wide-ranging, and there are numerous amounts of specialized fields that psychology can branch into. Generally, a psychology degree from an undergraduate study program will not specify the particular subfield of study. Psychology degrees go more into detail starting from graduate school, as grad school students pursue the precise field of study they find the most interest in. In order to be considered a professional psychologist, a Doctor in Psychology degree (Psy. D.) or a Doctor in Philosophy degree (Ph. D.) is required by many states in America. Both of these psychology degrees are highly prominent achievements, and the minor difference is that those with a Ph. D. are authorized to publish official research findings and also teach at a college or university level.

Though psychology degrees may require some time and effort, along with dedication and passion, the rewards of being a psychologist can be quite gratifying and worthwhile. The field of psychology is a social and interactive one by nature and being a psychologist will require a tremendous amount of patience and diligence. Many people pursue a psychology degree in hopes to help a fellow human being, and for good reason. It is a very rewarding feeling to know that you have truly touched another human being and helped to improve their quality of life significantly.

There is a countless amount of specialty fields that general psychology can branch out into as well as a plethora of reasons and uses for any given field of psychology. Perhaps one of the most practical and functional uses that psychology can serve is for the health and wellness of a human being. The mind of a human being is an exceptionally powerful tool that many people fail to realize. There has been research and experiments done to clinically prove that the mind is capable of extraordinary feats when really put to the test. The phrase “mind over matter” can really truly apply to a majority of situations that may induce stress and anxiety upon an individual. Health psychology is a specialized field of psychology that mainly focuses on how human behavior, thought processes, and even emotional states are affected by health and wellness, or even illness. Though a majority of the subcategories of general psychology have some part in dealing with the health and wellness of the human mind, health psychology really goes into detail and specifically examines the intricate nature of how thoughts and behaviors interact and correlate with health and wellness, and particular illnesses, both of the mental and physical nature.

Once a mere facet of clinical psychology, health psychology has now evolved into its own recognized specialty subfield of general psychology. In fact, many of the specialty categories of psychology have stemmed from clinical psychology, as this is one of the most common and widely practiced types of the social sciences. On top of evolving into an independent field of study, health psychology also branches out into different subfields, including community health psychology, clinical health psychology, and even public health psychology. The various branches of health psychology all involve the health and wellness of the respective practices. As with many other practices of psychology, health psychologists work in conjunction with other specialized psychologists such as clinical, child, educational, and counseling, to name a few. The information and data uncovered by health psychologists are often of great value to the other fields of psychology, and when all the different subfields work in unison, the preservation of the health and wellbeing of the human mind comes relatively simpler and more efficient. To most, if not all, individuals, the health and wellbeing of their mind and body are very important priorities, and healthy psychology plays a huge role in publishing research findings that can benefit the general public. One of the main objectives of a health psychologist is to recognize what kinds of behaviors promote good health and wellness and to identify those behaviors that lead to illness and disease.

The health and wellness of your body, mind, and soul are essential aspects of living a happier and longer life. There are several publications that focus strictly on health psychology and many psychology journals that offer sound advice on improving the quality of life in any given situation. Even a simple query on a search engine online about health psychology can lead you in the right direction of enjoying health and wellness.

Research and statistics show that the field of psychology is one that is rapidly expanding and a very prosperous career choice. An education in psychology can take you a long way, and many college students today are opting to pursue a psychology education. Many people fail to realize just how much time, work, and effort is necessary in order to complete a respected education in psychology. Completely finishing a psychology education can take just as much time as becoming a lawyer or a physician. The field of psychology is also one that can be branched out into a countless amount of specialties and subfields. For one individual to fully master every single field of psychology would be near impossible. Psychology is a growing and thriving career, and it is a field of study that will be around for ages to come, as long as humans are thinking. The most basic fundamental principle of psychology is to understand and recognize the various different processes of the human mind, which in itself is a handful to comprehend. The human body is a extremely intricate organism, and the human mind which controls this organism is an even more complex and involved thing to study.

Many prospective college students who pursue an education in psychology will most often complete an undergraduate program with a Bachelor’s degree in general psychology. Many colleges and universities don’t offer more specific specialties of psychology for undergraduates because study of the more precise subfield of psychology usually begins during the graduate program. A psychology education usually begins with general psychology, a 101 course that encompasses most of the very basic and general aspects of psychology. As the years progress, students will find a specialty that is of particular interest and pursue that education in psychology further into graduate school. After several years of graduate school, many prospective psychologists are required to complement their education with hands on experience and fieldwork, usually through a health center or a clinic. This type of experience is essential to really complete the whole psychology education. An education in psychology is virtually meaningless if there is no human interaction and actual hands on experimentation.

Psychology is a very social and interactive field by nature, and it is important for psychologists to be able to connect with their clients and patients on a professional as well as personal level.
Depending on the specialty subfield of psychology, future practitioners will graduate with a Doctor in Psychology (Psy. D.) or a Doctor in Philosophy (Ph. D). Both of these degrees are highly prestigious and respected achievements, and the minor difference between a Psy. D. and a Ph. D. is that those with the latter are approved to publish official research data and teach at an university level. Many psychologists who finish their education in psychology with a Psy. D. are very well off and content with their current occupation. In addition to completing the lengthy and rigorous psychology education, many individuals do not consider their journey of being a true psychologist finished until they are licensed and able to open up their own independent practice. An education in psychology can be concluded with a psychology license after several years of experience.

Psychology License

Human body and mind, psychology is a field of study that requires extensive education as well as experience. Psychology, in a very basic essence, is the scientific and systematic study of the human mind and the various processes and cognitive functions. A healthy mind of a human being is a truly remarkable thing that is capable of virtually anything. What was thought to be impossible just a few decades ago is now an everyday norm in today’s society. What we think is impossible today will undoubtedly become a possibility in the future. Human beings are constantly advancing and progressing, and every new groundbreaking discovery or medicinal breakthrough serves as a testimony to the limitless abilities of the human mind.

It takes a brilliant mind to study something like the human mind, and psychology is no exception. Becoming a recognized and wealthy psychology is a long and arduous journey but the rewards have the potential to greatly exceed the risks and obstacles. Many people have an idea of how much work and effort that becoming a lawyer or a doctor takes. Many people also have an idea of the strength and courage that it takes for an individual to become a firefighter or a policeman. But a few people actually recognize the patience and intelligence it takes to become a licensed psychologist. Though it is not a necessity to possess a psychology license in order to practice psychology, a licensed psychologist has the ability to open up shop and run their own independent practice. A psychology license grants a psychologist the capability to work under his (or her) own hours and set guidelines, rules, fees, and other variables to his (or her) own content. Many psychologists usually start off as clinical psychologists in order to gain valuable experience while finishing up graduate school. There are those who decide to stay in a clinic and practice clinical psychology without a psychology license, but due to the restraints and limits that a psychologist who works for a health center or a clinic face, many decide to go on to become a licensed psychologist to practice independently. The benefits of owning your own business or practice far exceed the benefits of working under a set of rules and regulations that you must abide by. This is not to say however, that a licensed psychologist is above the law and is allowed to violate the ethics and moral code of being a doctor.

A psychology license is not just something that is handed out. On top of the lengthy academic career that must be concluded with either a Doctor in Psychology (Psy. D.) or a Doctor in Philosophy (Ph. D.) degree, a prospective licensed psychologist must have several years of experience on their resume. Experience is perhaps the greatest teacher, and in order to preserve the prestige and exclusivity of a psychology license, the requirements are strictly enforced for those looking to become a licensed psychologist.

As an introduction to psychology, you will have to be able to open your eyes and might even have to alter the way you currently view the world. Psychology 101 is another term referring to the basics of psychology. Before you may be thinking of choosing psychology as a career path, you will most definitely want to be sure of your choice by understanding psychology 101 through an introduction to psychology. Because psychology is such a general topic, many people tend to get overwhelmed simply at the thought of it. Through the introduction to psychology, you can break it down to simple basics in order to get a better grasp at the topic. Like many other areas of study, psychology 101 can be used as a stepping stone for you to delve into more difficult and complex areas of psychology.

As mentioned before, you will first need to open your eyes. This means that sometimes you have to think differently than what is considered a general and normal reaction. You will be studying through psychology 101, the way that the human brain works and behaves. From the introduction to psychology, you should be aware of where the term ‘psychology’ has originated from. The term ‘psychology’ is originally from the Greek term ‘psyche logia.’ The translation of ‘psyche logia’ into English would be “the study of the breath, spirit, and soul.” Psychology 101 is so important throughout the daily lives of mankind. Psychology can explain many mysteries through tying the theories of many different biological and philosophical studies together.

Introduction to psychology cannot bypass the fact that many people generalize that psychology is easy and it basically only requires common sense. This statement is completely untrue and falsified. Due to the fact that psychology is directly related to science, there is no way that it isn’t scientifically proven through the use of scientific methods. As a psychologist you should also be open to many different solutions to one problem. Try to think of possible solutions from a biological point of view, evolutionary point of view, cognitive point of view, behavioral point of view, and a humanistic point of view.

Psychology 101 will also show that there are more than a few subdivisions within the broad field of psychology. Through the introduction of psychology you should take advantage and dip your foot into as many different subdivisions as possible. From there on you can make you own decision on what you would like to study further. Many people generalize the study of psychology to involve crazy people getting medical attention that is more than necessary. This has no quickly become a myth due to the fact that psychology is sought out for many different reasons aside from therapeutic reasons. Psychology 101 is needed for children in kindergarten, grade school, high school, college, hospitals, organizations, and even government offices. Psychology also has provided a great sense of medical relief in being able to treat people with a multitude of different mental disorders.

A field of psychology that is known to connect how the evolution has caused specific triggers within the human behaviors through different tests and theories is known as evolutionary psychology. This category of psychology studies the ways that certain evolutionary standards have influenced the way that people feel, think, and behave. Evolutionary psychology has developed a certain area where their primary focal points of studies lie. These important aspects of study involve the evolution of how people mate, how people build their anger, how people are able to have sympathetic emotions, and how people find different ways to communicate with each other.

Evolutionary psychology is a field of psychology that has been becoming more and more popular within the research aspects of psychology. Much of the research behind this field generally pertains to the evolution of human genetics that influences their survival rates. This has also brought an equally increased amount of attention for the study of the human aging process. The way that human’s age and what occurs throughout that entire period of a lifetime is what might be able to show exactly how and why the evolution happens the way that it does. Evolutionary psychology is constantly looking at the many conflicts that occur throughout the different periods of evolution.

This field of psychology is generally not as difficult as other aspects of psychology and therefore intrigues many people to want to study it throughout their entire life. The beginning studies of evolutionary psychology go all the way back to when humans were not even able to verbally communicate with each other. Although it may be simple to begin with as you move up further along the timeline where humans become more intricately developed creatures; your research theories will become more and more complex. The survival methods of humans will change as the surrounding situations change. Evolution will show how the human mind will grow along with the complex situations that arise and must be solved in order for human survival.

Evolutionary psychology also involves the psychological studies of the evolution of animals as well. Although they are not as complex as humans, it is an area that requires a lot of time and dedication because we are not able to physically feel what they are thinking or feeling. As a fellow human, you could relate to the studies of human evolution. You can relate to how you feel towards your family, your surroundings, and your daily battles. Through studying animals; you will be dividing them with those that are predators and those that aren’t. The way that animals behave and the way animals use their survival methods adapt to their constantly changing environment is a very exciting area of study. You will be able to see that through these studies you can learn why humans and other animals behave the way that they do in certain situations. The study of evolutionary psychology is never-ending as there are always new things to learn about the human behavior.

Within the very broad and extensive field of psychology, there is a limitless amount of subcategories and specialties that are in existence today. The basic fundamental principle of psychology is to try to understand how and why the human mind works and behaves in certain ways in a given situation. To figure out how the human mind operates and functions is an extremely complicated process to try and narrow down into one specific topic, which is part of the reasoning behind the numerous amounts of subdivisions of psychology. There are the obvious subfields of psychology, such as child psychology, clinical psychology, and counseling psychology, and there are other more obscure and specialized fields such as sports psychology, forensic psychology, and geriatric psychology. Most, if not all, psychologists are considered doctors. In order to become licensed and professional, all prospective psychologists must earn some form of a doctorate degree through graduate school. Many psychologists hold a Doctorate in Psychology degree (Psy. D.), yet others who decide to take their careers further into researching and/or being a professor at a college or university level achieve the prestigious status of a Doctorate in Philosophy degree (Ph. D.). In a majority of the United States of America, a Doctorate in Psychology or a Doctorate in Philosophy only indicate a general major, such as psychology, rather than a specialized subfield within psychology. In other words, a child psychologist will most likely have majored in psychology and minored in adolescent development, or something related to children, while in undergraduate and graduate programs.

Though none of the specific subfields of psychology are necessarily more important than another, there are certain specialties that are more commonly sought after than others. Child psychology is perhaps one of the more common subcategories of psychology, and for good reason. No parent wants to see their child “abnormal” or severely different from his or her peers in school. Proper nourishment and nurture during childhood is a very essential aspect of how the child will grow up to develop and become his (or her) own individual. A child psychologist is often sought after by parents who simply want to reassurance that nothing is wrong with their child. Because of the often erratic and sometimes unpredictable behaviors by children, child psychology is a specialty field that may often seem a tad more prosperous than other fields of psychology. It is important for a child psychologist to have some extra patience because of the vast exposure and interactivity with children of all ages. In some cases, a child psychologist will have to deal with cases of autism or attention deficit disorder, which will require even more patience. Child psychology happens to be one of the subfields of psychology that may call for exceptionally patient and understanding individuals, however the rewards of being a child psychologist can be quite gratifying and worthwhile. Children are often easier and more fun to work with than for example, a patient in his middle ages who is diagnosed with a severe case of schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. Child psychology can definitely have its trials and tribulations to face, but child psychology can also definitely be one of the more easygoing and relaxed subfields of psychology.

The social sciences are an ever expanding field of study. As long as human beings are evolving, developing and advancing, the social sciences will always be progressing and growing just as well. Psychology is perhaps one of the more common social sciences, and already, there is a countless amount of careers in psychology that an individual can decide to go into. Psychology careers are a very social and interactive field of occupation, and psychologists are almost always working closely together with a patient or a client, depending on which one of the specific psychology careers that is being practiced. Careers in psychology are not easy to come by. An extensive amount of studying is required all throughout undergraduate programs in college as well as graduate courses in graduate school. All psychologists who consider themselves professional have graduated with either a Doctor of Psychology degree (Psy. D.) or a Doctor of Philosophy degree (Ph. D.). Both of these doctorate degrees require a great deal of concentration and study throughout graduate school years. On top of the large amount of studying and research that needs to be done, psychologists are usually exposed to clinical psychology work during their graduate school years to gain some insightful and helpful experience for when they decide they want to open their own independent practice. Many psychologists decide to stay with a certain clinic and practice careers in psychology within the clinic or hospital for several years before running their own practice.
As mentioned above, most, if not all, psychology careers start off in a clinic or a health center as a clinical psychologist. This experience within a controlled environment of a medical center is very helpful and valuable to a prospective psychologist who is hesitant or doubtful about which of the careers in psychology they want to pursue. Due to the nature of the very broad and general subject matter of psychology, psychology careers can range from virtually anything, from careers in psychology dealing with just children, to psychology careers that focus mainly on those with mental disorders and conditions such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or even careers in psychology that deal strictly with counseling individuals with personal problems. Psychology careers that start in the clinic or health center as clinical psychologists are not uncommon to see as well, as many careers in psychology start in clinics and stay in clinics.

Psychology, in the most fundamental sense, is the study of the human mind. In order to effectively study and learn about the human mind, communication between the psychologist and the client is of utmost importance. Many people decide to pursue careers in psychology because of the very social and interactive aspect. If you happen to be an individual interested in psychology careers, keep in mind however, that this is a very important job in that complete strangers are willing to trust you enough to divulge personal information and problems. Many psychologists also hold responsibility for individuals with mental disorders, and this is just as important. The rewards of a career in psychology however, are very gratifying; to know that you have been able to really reach out and help someone is worthwhile.
